The Cyclone Gabriel Appeal Trust are taking applications from community organisations of up to $30,000 (inc. GST) for funding grants post Cyclone Gabriel, with the following criteria:
1. The project is in an impacted region or district - Tararua is one region covered.
2. The project is community, iwi, hapū and/or marae led.
3. The project is ready to action as soon as funding is received.
4. Proof that the project has been completed is easily provided.
5. The project is not a grant to individuals. Our friends from Tu Mai Ra Energy can supply / install a robust solar system (with or without batteries) which will help to provide Electricity Resilience and, in some case, offset up to 80% of an organisations energy cost.
Using the Eketāhuna Health Centre as an example, $30k will supply them with a solar and battery system, which should offset at least 80%, if not more of their electricity bills. This will allow them to then channel the money that they used to pay their energy supplier back into their operational budget.
Effectively, you can get free energy! You can read about the grant available at https://www.cycloneappeal.org.nz/request-a-grant/
If this sounds like something that would work for your organisation, come along, and hear from Callum Skeet, Hub Manager, Tū Mai Rā Energy this Wednesday evening where he will explain what TMRE can offer, how they can assist you with submitting an application and once approved coordinate all the work using local trades.
When: 5.30pm, Wednesday 1 May 2024
Where: Te Tahua Business Hub, Rangitāne Square, High Street, Dannevirke.
